Cirdan staff awarded at the East Anglian Maritime Awards

Three members of Cirdan staff have been recognised for their work with young people at the 2024 East Anglian Maritime Awards.

Charlotte - Queen Galadriel’s Skipper
Charlotte scooped 1st place at the Essex leg of the awards, recognising her work at Cirdan since she began in 2017. Charlotte started as Bosun, quickly progressing up to Mate and then Skipper of Queen Galadriel at the age of 25 years old. She has worked with a huge variety of young people over the years, with a particular passion for helping special needs groups. Her passion for sailing and commitment in helping young people are clear to see in her work.

Matt - Apprentice Bosun
Apprentice Bosun Matt was also recognised for his fantastic effort this year. Sailing on both Faramir and Queen Galadriel in 2024, Matt is kind, caring and friendly, and has a calm and warming nature. He is an asset to the crew and loves to see the positive changes and develop that sail training can give young people.

Ed - CEO
Cirdan’s CEO Ed was also recognised for his 10 years of work at Cirdan. Ed began as Mate onboard Duet, progressing to Skipper on Faramir, then Fleet Manager and now CEO. Ed has helped to take Cirdan forward and progress the way the charity works, reaching many more young people. He has also been a great mentor to many crew members over the years, and is a firm believer in helping those who are disadvantaged.

The team is pictured with Jennifer Tolhurst, the Lord-Lieutenant of Essex, who presented the awards at Blackwater Sailing Club in Essex.
