Volunteering
As a charity, The Cirdan Sailing Trust relies very heavily on volunteers. Our Trustee and Management Committees are purely voluntary with representation from relevant areas of society eg church, education, youth service, lawyers and merchant navy.
Vessel refits
Each winter our vessels undergo a refit prior to starting the sailing season. Volunteers help us to paint, varnish, clean and a whole load of other jobs we wouldn’t otherwise have the time or money to do. We particularly like to hear from people with specialist skills.
Relief crew
Although all our vessels are crewed throughout the season by permanent sea staff we are always in need of additional volunteers to help us on a relief basis. Volunteers for the positions of Skipper and Mate require an RYA Yachtmaster with commercial endorsement. All positions are subject to references and DBS checks. If you can offer your support we would be very pleased to hear from you.
Other
We don’t just require volunteers to work directly on our boats. We are always on the look out for help with catering, in the office and spreading the word about what we do!
Volunteers need to be 18+ years old.
Cirdan has a diverse supporter network ranging from individuals who have sailed as part of a youth development programme, those who recognise the benefits of our work, to grant-making trusts and other charitable and professional bodies.
The support we receive whether as a donation, volunteering of time or professional support is essential to the successful operation of our service and we are very grateful to everyone who supports our aims and ideals.
Whilst we have too many names to mention individually, we would like to thank everyone who has supported us in any way over the past 40 years and anyone who adds their support in the future.
