After a competitive application process, Cirdan has been selected to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge. This is a match funding campaign, which in our case is supported by the Dulverton Trust, who have offered to double any on-line donations made to our project ‘The Voyage of Discovery Fund 2017’, from 12pm on Tuesday 29th November until 12pm on Friday 2nd December 2016. If we reach our target of £30,000 during these 72 hours, the Dulverton Trust will match fund this amount to £60,000!
Our Voyage of Discovery Fund, is the main focus of our fund raising and we run the scheme on a yearly basis. The monies raised enable disadvantaged young people to develop life skills and enhance their health and well-being through the challenge of life at sea aboard our vessels. Here they will develop essential social and communication skills, increase in confidence and self-esteem and learn how to work as part of a team. Amongst the young people supported by our scheme are those from deprived backgrounds, at risk of exclusion or failing at school and those with special needs or behaviour issues. A sailing voyage provides them with a challenging, alien environment where they have to communicate with others, understand and accept authority, live and work as part of a team and learn to be resilient.
With most of our youth groups being unable to access funds to participate in a non-statutory activity, it is necessary for us to raise the funds to subsidise the cost of a voyage for them. We do this through our Voyage of Discovery Fund and any donations received towards it are of enormous value and very much appreciated.
To add your support to our project, all you need to do is visit our project page Voyage of Discovery Fund 2017 at the Big Give Christmas Challenge during the 72 hours of the campaign and make your donation – every £10 you give is worth £20 to us.
