Wettest Classroom on Earth starts their voyage on Queen Galadriel

The Wettest Classroom project in conjunction with Venturers Trust is well and truly underway aboard our flagship Queen Galadriel.  The first of 8 groups of young people, most of whom are on the Autistic Spectrum, set off with their teachers and carers last Saturday from Bristol Docks.

The initial part of their voyage was quite intensive with nowhere to stop as they sailed around Land’s End in rolling seas until they reached their sheltered anchorage off Newlyn. A pod of dolphins joined the vessel as they sailed and then breaching whales were spotted nearby.

Being at anchor was a good chance to complete the on-board chores before setting off in the dinghy to explore the quaint fishing village of Newlyn.  The group are now ready to complete their journey to Fowey although there is still more excitement, fun and learning to come on the way.

This group leave Queen Galadriel on Friday and the next group join on Saturday to sail to Poole in time for the start of the Poole Boat Show.  The Wettest Classroom round UK voyage then continues with joining ports in Ipswich, Hartlepool, Peterhead, Oban, Holyhead before arriving back in Bristol.  A real ‘Voyage of Discovery’ for these adventurous youngsters.
